Polaroid GPS Navigation + Integrated DVD player for sale [01 Feb 2007|05:03pm]

[ mood | busy ]

Used only one week, this is the best navigation out there for the price. Features an LCD touchscreen with an integrated DVD player!!! I decided I don't use the GPS as much as I thought I would so I am going to get an in-dash player instead. I paid $560 in Target brand new and I am willing to sell for $450. We can arrange an auction on Ebay to make sure payment is verified and you receive your item. It is flawless and includes all accessories.

Comment for more information.

New maintainer [20 Oct 2006|01:39am]

Hey, I'm the new maintainer of the community and I'd just like to introduce myself. I've been into car audio for about 5 years now and currently I'm employed as an installer for Audio Excellence out of Orlando, FL.

I'd like to see this community gain some speed and more interest, so if anyone needs any help with their car audio system, myself and other members of the community would be glad to help you out.

Also, feel free to post up some pictures of your installs.

Here are a couple of websites I use for tech resources

Anyone have any idea where to get an 8" diameter rubber gasket to us as a spacer for mounting an 8" subwoofer?

8" subwoofer... [03 Apr 2006|11:49pm]

I've just ordered an 8" sub enclosure for my BMW M roadster. Roadstersound.com recommends installing a JL Audio 8w3v2 8" sub.

The Model 80 enclosure will work with any speaker that will fit (cutout diameter - 7", mounting depth - 4.6", sealed enclosure volume - .30 ft3).

Does anyone think they know of a better subwoofer for the enclosure?

1992 Honda Accord [03 Mar 2006|07:36am]

i just recently purchased my mother-in-law's 92 honda accord because her and my step-father (in law) just moved to california. i am having a problem with the stock radio where it will not accept tapes so i can't use my car adapter for my discman. my fiance has a car cd player/radio that he got for christmas a few years ago and used to have in his galant before he got his new car (sentra) and we want to install it in the accord. however, i've been looking at the dash and i'm not really sure where to start in regards to getting the existing radio out.

does anyone in this community either own a 92 accord, any other accord, or have any advice on how to get the radio out? thanks ever much.

Speaker magnets [27 Feb 2006|03:57pm]

Does anyone know if having your speaker magnets touching the car's frame will cause engine noise to be transmitted by those speakers, even if those speakers aren't turned on?

If you have a subwoofer in your trunk, is there any way to stop/reduce your trunk lid's vibrations?

Crossovers [14 Jan 2006|12:40am]

I'm one of those people who has to have an external crossover in order to adjust my bass. I used to have a Lanzar X2 2-way electronic crossover, but it screwed up on me recently. So far this is my second crossover. It seems every 1 1/2 years they screw up and then I have to switch it out. So, my question is, what's a good and reliable crossover that comes with a bass remote? Also, what's a good in-dash crossover?

I was thinking about getting a Pioneer EQ-6500. I heard they were reallty reliable. What's a good price to get this for because they are discontinued?

Continuous bass.. [05 Jan 2006|01:29am]

Alright, so I just got money back from the insurance company after a long fued/investigation over my stolen system, and I had time over the holidays to install my subwoofers back into my car, and I've been flipping through CDs trying to find as many songs as I can where it's basically one big long bass-line. So far I've got:

Car Audio Question [05 Dec 2005|09:36pm]

Warning: Question that doesn't directly relate to cars ahead.

Just figured I would let you know...

I have heard about (not seen in person) a friend of mine's friend who plays bass guitar, and apparently has a hookup in his car to allow him to plug into his dash and play bass through his car speakers. Some questions:
1. How awesome is that?
2. How can one do this without going to a music tech/car audio tech?

im gonna xpost this one to a guitar community...

Ports and Tweeter location [03 Dec 2005|01:51pm]

[ mood | awake ]

Okay I was originally going to have a friend of mine, who does professional installs, help me with designing and building ports for the 8-eight inch subs Im going to have in the back. However, he has since disappeared, and I have no idea where to begin. Does anyone know of a program or web site that will help in my effort to build ports? Would calling Kicker, since they are Kicker comp vr 8's, for that info help?

Also I just read something about aiming tweeter and noticed that someone said not to have them in your dash, since the sound could reflect too easily and it doesnt give you a very good staging distance. Where I have them now, in the dash, is only about 2 inches shorter then I would get if I put them in the kick panel with my midbass. Should I put them in my kick pannel as well? My concern with that is that Im not exactly small and Im afraid that I would block the tweet with my leg and not be able to hear it as well as I want.

Any suggestions would greatly help... Thanks :D

aiming tweeters [03 Dec 2005|10:45am]

I think I read somewhere that the goal of aiming tweeters was to get the sound to hit your ear without pointing them directly at you... And one way to achieve it was by aiming each one at the opposite side glass so it reflected back thus fooling your mind into thinking the music is coming from everywhere. Does that sound about right? If so do you think it would be a good idea to use a laser pointer to test out the sounds off glass refraction for best possible positioning?

What the hell did I just say?

Power [28 Nov 2005|12:51am]

My system draws too much power from my car. I've already replaced a battery and an alternator. I have a '94 cavalier with a 4 cyl engine. I wonder if I should upgrade my alternator?

Kenwood Amp troubleshooting... [27 Nov 2005|01:43am]

I'm installing a Kenwood amp into a 2000 BMW M roadster.

I can't get the amp to turn on. I've run the remote power line. I stripped everything but the power and ground cables and the remote power line to see if it would simply turn on. It wouldn't. I even tried hooking up my brother's old Kenwood amp to see if it would turn on. It didn't.

Any ideas?
